HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen said 32 candidate filings were processed by the Secretary of State’s Office this week. To date, a total of 328 candidate filings have been processed for 173 different offices.
Secretary Jacobsen said candidates filing this week did so for the races of Governor, United States Senator, and both U.S. Representative seats, among others.
On Thursday, Governor Greg Gianforte officially file for re-election with Lt. Gov. Kristen Juras. Gov. Gianforte wasn’t the only incumbent to file this week, as current U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (District No. 2) officially filed paperwork for his re-election. Rep. Rosendale withdrew a previous candidate filing for U.S. Senate before entering the 2nd Congressional District race.
Nine candidate filings have now been processed for that U.S. Representative (District No. 2) race, with a trio of candidates joining Rep. Rosendale in filing this week. Current State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen filed on Tuesday, as did Steve Held (note: Mr. Held initially filed online for the 1st Congressional District before withdrawing and filing for District No. 2.). Kevin Hamm joined the race on Thursday.
Two new candidate filings were also processed for Montana’s other U.S. Representative race (District No. 1) as Mary Todd filed on Wednesday and Monica Tranel filed late Friday. They joined incumbent Ryan Zinke in filing for the seat.
Also filing this week was U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who was joined by his wife and children at the Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday. Sheehy joins three current candidates – Brad Johnson, Jon Tester, and Charles Walking Child Sr. – in the race.
Multiple legislative candidate filings were processed this week, bringing the total to 198 candidate filings processed for Montana’s House of Representatives and 50 candidate filings for the Montana Senate.
Other candidate filings processed this week included candidates for the State Auditor and Secretary of State offices.
