HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen thanked voters and election workers following Tuesday’s historic General Election and congratulated all candidates on the ballot for their service to their communities.
“This election was historic for Montanans, from the smallest precincts in rural Montana to our largest counties. Hundreds of thousands of our family, friends, and neighbors marked their ballots and completed their civic duty,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Thank you to every last one of our Montana voters for ensuring your voice was included in shaping the future of our great state and nation.”
“I’m grateful for the thousands of election officials, poll workers, and volunteers for the significant role they played in serving our Montana voters. It’s an honor for the Montana Elections Team to work hand-in-hand to provide an election experience Montanans can be proud of,” Secretary Jacobsen continued. “Congratulations to every candidate appearing on the ballot for dedicating your time to represent your community and state.”
Polls opened on Tuesday at 7 a.m. across the state, and hundreds of thousands of Montanans visited polling places to deliver absentee ballots or cast in-person ballots. When polls closed at 8 p.m., counties across the state began reporting unofficial results to the Secretary of State’s Election Night Reporting website https://electionresults.mt.gov/.
Nearly 600,000 votes were cast in the 2024 General Election, making it one of the highest turnout elections in Montana history. The state had an incredible return rate of absentee ballots, with nearly 90 percent of those issued returned to county election offices across the state. Official turnout numbers will be available following the county and state canvass procedures.
“A big thanks to the entire Montana Elections Team who collectively provide safe, secure, accessible, and transparent elections to all Montana voters. As a result, those voters made history,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Thanks for voting, Montana.”
