HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen joined colleagues nationwide urging Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to promote and enhance election integrity in Montana and the United States.
Secretary Jacobsen was one of 21 Secretaries of State urging Secretary Noem to prioritize improvements to the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program to assist in detecting noncitizens attempting to register and/or vote in our elections.
“As President Trump has explicitly conveyed, ensuring noncitizens do not vote in our elections is crucial to protecting the integrity of elections in our respectful states,” wrote the secretaries. “Disallowing interference from noncitizens in the elections process is a fundamental role we must not only assume, but champion.”
In their letter, Secretary Jacobsen and her colleagues suggested multiple enhancements to the SAVE program, which would allow them to better serve constituents and voters across the country.
“We appreciate Secretary Noem’s assistance in ensuring that only citizens are registering and voting in our Montana elections,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Enhancing the SAVE program will bolster confidence in our elections as Montanans on every side of the aisle strongly agree and believe that only U.S. citizens should vote in our state’s elections.”
