HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen continued her fight for Montana businesses this week by joining several states in a lawsuit filing challenging the Biden Administration’s confusing and burdensome business regulations.
Secretary Jacobsen joined Secretaries of State nationwide in supporting businesses after the disastrous implementation of the federal government’s Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and its Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) requirements.
“It’s no surprise to anyone that the Biden Administration botched the rollout, despite the concerns I expressed on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of businesses in Montana,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “The Biden Administration failed to inform Montana businesses of the mandate, which is unnecessarily complex and another bureaucratic hurdle standing between businesses and their day-to-day operations.”
Secretary Jacobsen has previously urged Montana’s Congressional delegation and the federal government to support Montana businesses. Earlier this month, Secretary Jacobsen joined 19 colleagues nationwide urging President Trump to repeal the CTA. Earlier this week, President Trump announced the federal government was “suspending all enforcement of the outrageous and invasive Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirement for U.S. citizens.”
“On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of small businesses in Montana, I appreciate that President Trump removed this burdensome mandate,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “This Biden Administration imposition was an absolute disaster that forced unwarranted regulations and severe penalties on the small businesses that are the backbone of our communities. I’m glad that the federal government under President Trump has followed our lead to eliminate unnecessary government obstacles.”
“Montana small businesses applaud Secretary Jacobsen’s bold stand on behalf of the law-abiding mom-and-pop enterprises lining our state’s Main Streets,” said Ronda Wiggers, state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Montana.
