HELENA, Mont. — Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen says more than 270 candidate filings have been processed by the Secretary of State’s Office as of 5 p.m. on Friday, February 16.
Since Montana’s candidate filing period began on January 11, there have been 274 candidate filings processed, including 14 new filings this week.
“Our office continues to serve excited candidates as they file to represent their family, friends, and neighbors,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Best of luck to all candidates in the upcoming elections.”
Ten of the 14 candidates filed for legislative seats with nine of those seeking office in the Montana House of Representatives. The other four filings included two District Court Judge candidates, a United States Senate candidate, and a Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate.
To date, 212 filings have been processed for Montana legislative offices – 43 for the Montana Senate and 169 for the Montana House. Currently, twelve of the Senate races have more than one candidate filing, while 51 Montana House races have two or more candidate filings.
Nine candidates have filed to represent Montana in Washington D.C., including five bids for the United States House of Representatives – four of those for the District 2 race. Meanwhile, Charles Walking Child Sr. joined the race for the U.S. Senate.
A second candidate filed for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction this week, while the offices for Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor each have a lone candidate filing processed.
No gubernatorial candidate filings have been processed at this time.
As of February 16, there have been 82 Democratic candidate filings processed by the Secretary of State’s Office, compared to 145 Republican processed candidate filings. Four Libertarian filings have been processed.
