HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen joins election officials nationwide in celebrating National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) on Tuesday, September 17. Launched in 2012, the annual holiday encourages Americans to register to vote and participate in the electoral process.
“National Voter Registration Day serves as a reminder of the importance of civic engagement and the vital role each citizen plays in shaping the future of our state and nation,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Today, we encourage eligible Montanans to take the first step toward that important civic duty by registering to vote.”
With less than 50 days remaining until the November 5th General Election, Secretary Jacobsen reminds Montana voters to ensure they are registered and that their information is accurate and current. Montanans can utilize Secretary Jacobsen’s voter resources website, VoteMT.gov, for key steps, including:
How to register to vote: Eligible Montanans who are not currently registered can complete Montana’s voter registration application and return it to their county elections office.
Checking registration status: It’s important for Montanans to verify their registration is current, including their name and address. Only registered absentee voters will be sent an absentee ballot, so confirming status and address information is crucial.
Getting #VoteReady: Voters can familiarize themselves with the offices on the ballot and the candidates running for those offices, and research their sample ballot once it is available from the county elections office. Voters can also find precinct and polling place information, and make a plan to cast their votes for the General Election. The Montana Election Education Video Series provides answers to frequently asked questions, details about election procedures, and information about how Montana’s elections are conducted from start to finish.
“Every vote counts from the top of the ballot down, and it’s our duty to have our voices heard through the ballot box,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “Join millions of Americans on this National Voter Registration Day and take the necessary steps to prepare for November 5th. Thanks for voting, Montana.”
September is also National Voter Registration Month, further encouraging citizens’ participation in elections.
