HELENA, Mont. — Nearly two dozen students and staff members from Foothills Community Christian School in Great Falls visited the Montana State Capitol this week, meeting with elected officials such as Lt. Governor Kristen Juras and Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen.
The students, who varied in age, learned about the roles and responsibilities of the Secretary of State’s Office. Secretary Jacobsen explained her position as the state’s chief elections officer, maintaining uniformity in the operation of elections across the state. She explained how students will be able to participate in the 2024 Youth Vote Program in the fall, as well as the Secretary of State’s fourth annual Constitution Contest.
Secretary Jacobsen also highlighted the other divisions of the Secretary of State’s Office, including the Business Services Division’s annual report filing fee waiver and record number of new business registrations.
“It’s always a pleasure to welcome the students from Foothills Christian,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “They are always well educated on the operation of our state government, the significance of our Montana and United States Constitution, and they always ask excellent questions. Thank you for visiting our office.”
Each student received a copy of the United States and Montana Constitution and took advantage of the opportunity to ask Secretary Jacobsen and Lt. Governor Juras questions regarding Montana civics and government.
