HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen thanked the more than 200,000 businesses statewide for a successful 2025 Annual Report filing season. All limited liability companies (LLCs) and corporations must file an annual report to keep their registration information current while doing business in Montana.
Secretary Jacobsen waived the annual report filing fee for all Montana businesses that filed between January 1 and the April 15 deadline. Roughly 238,000 Montana LLCs and corporations filed an annual report in 2025, amounting to millions of dollars in savings for Montana’s small businesses.
“Thank you to the hundreds of thousands of businesses across Montana for another successful annual report filing season,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “I’m grateful to our wonderful team at the Secretary of State’s Office for assisting our Montana businesses every day, and we’re honored to be part of their business journey.”
Fulfilling a promise to partner with Montana’s business community, Secretary Jacobsen has increased efficiencies, cut registration fees in half, and waived the annual report filing fee for the past two years. As a result, Montana has had record new business creation in each of the past four years and has been named the No. 1 state to start a new small business.
Numerous Montana businesses have expressed gratitude to Secretary Jacobsen and the office for again waiving the annual report filing fee and for providing outstanding customer service.
“I just want to say THANK YOU for not charging a filing fee again this year for businesses. It is much appreciated. Also, when I have had to call the office with questions, the reps have always been very nice,” wrote one business.
“Thanks a million! You were the best experience I’ve had with a government office!” exclaimed another.
“Christi Jacobsen and her staff are doing an amazing job and should be recognized! The team has made it so that doing business in Montana is truly a pleasurable experience,” stated another business. “Compared to many other states I work in, Montana is by far the most user-friendly. In a world of broken state websites and frustrating state-level experiences, the Montana SOS has delivered the exact opposite. Keep up the good work Christi and team!”
