HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Secretary of State’s Office announced on Friday that 213 total candidate filings have been reported in just over three weeks of the 2022 candidate filing season.
Since candidate filing opened on January 13, a total of 189 candidates have filed for the Montana Legislature — 151 for the House and 38 for the Senate. Seventy-five of those candidates are incumbents in their respective district, with 50 of them currently running unopposed. Several of the districts have two, three, or even four candidates set to run.
A total of 122 Republicans, 64 Democrats, and three Libertarian candidates have filed for the Montana Legislature.
There was only one new non-legislative filing this week. Nine candidates have filed for Montana’s two U.S. Congressional seats — five in U.S. House District 1 and four in U.S. House District 2.
Statewide, state district, or legislative candidates can file online, in person at the Secretary of State’s Office, or by mail or fax (the filing fee must be paid at the time of filing). Local candidates file with the county election office.
