HELENA, Mont. — The 2024 Montana Youth Vote opened to all Montana students in grades K-12 on Monday, announced Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen and Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen.
Students across Montana are encouraged to participate by voting for candidates on the official Montana ballot, including those for President, congressional races, and statewide executive offices. Older students can vote for Montana’s Supreme Court races and three proposed ballot initiatives, while younger students will see additional age-appropriate questions.
“I’m thrilled for our Montana students to engage in this youth election to understand our voting processes and procedures,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “It’s important for students to recognize how their voices will be heard through the ballot box in the future. I’m grateful to our Montana schools and teachers for providing this exciting opportunity to their students and look forward to sharing the results.”
“The Youth Vote election is an important learning opportunity for all Montana students,” said Superintendent Elsie Arntzen. “During my time as Superintendent, I have revised our social studies content standards and graduation requirements to include a robust focus on civics education. I encourage all families to have an open conversation with their children about this November’s election.”
Information was provided to Montana schools and teachers on Monday so that students could begin voting. Schools may email sosyouthvote@mt.gov for questions or additional information.
Secretary Jacobsen and Superintendent Arntzen will share the results on Friday, November 1. In past years, students participating in the Youth Vote have correctly predicted the results of Montana’s elections.
